83 years ago, a legacy was born...
as Koichi Kawai labored diligently in his small workshop in Hamamatsu, Japan. That same determined sprit of the master builder lives today in the Shigeru Kawai Research and Development Laboratory, where our renowned Master Piano Artisans patiently build one of the world's finest instruments, the EX Concert Piano. Combining our time-tested methods of origin (the meticulous handwork techniques of the piano craft) with the most sophisticated piano-design tools of our day, each EX Concert Piano is conceived as a "next step" in the evolving art of the piano – each instrument striving to be better than the last. The scarcity of materials used and the painstaking attention devoted to each EX Concert Piano makes these instruments rare indeed. Fewer than twenty are crafted each year for all the world.
After completion, each EX Concert Piano is tested and adjusted in Kawai's unique anechoic chamber.
State-of-the-art computer systems evaluate every aspect of the piano's tonal performance. Only after it has surpassed all the requirements of these stringent quality control tests is an EX ready for its ultimate destination – the concert stage.
But to truly understand the EX is to play it. Only then, in its transcendent tone and incomparable touch, will you fully sense the passion, the devotion... the spirit of Kawai.
