C. Bechstein Key Features:
TONE:
a.Soundboard: Only premium high-altitude grown spruce with extremely tight grain is used in C. Bechstein pianos. This slow growing, select tone wood is gradually seasoned and asymmetrically tapered, putting more mass directly below the bridges for optimal energy transfer
b.Bridges: C. Bechstein bridges are vertically aligned plies, made of maple or a combination of maple and mahogany to transfer the broadest range of frequencies. The bridge is then topped with a distinctive naturally colored hornbeam cap.
c.Hammers: C. Bechstein uses hammers of long-fiber, double-coated felt over a distinctive walnut core. The hammers are manually voices by concert stage experienced master craftsmen. When the hammers strike the precision made German steel strings they unlock the entire tonal spectrum, for which C. Bechstein is famous.
d.Ribs: The same select tone wood used in the soundboard is shaped by C. Bechstein for the ribs, tapered and notched perfectly in the rim. C. Bechstein’s unique main-rib engineering assures a perfectly proportional distribution of string energy and down-bearing pressure across the soundboard
TOUCH:
a.Keybed/Keyframe/Keysticks: These elements are made mostly of select spruce, which is stable yet resilient, lightweight and tonally conductive. The multi-layered spruce keybed features an expansion slot and is structured to best support the keyframe glides; laterally beech leg-supports are integrated.
b.Action: C. Bechstein’s “Gold Line†emblem on the action signifies that it is made of the finest action grade hornbeam and maple. The parts are individually tested and calibrated, assembled and completed at the C. Bechstein factory.
TUNING STABILITY:
a.Rim & Support Posts: These elements work in complete harmony with the sand-cast iron plate to minimize loss of energy while enhancing the tone and its transmission.
b.The massive hard-wood inner rim: is made of layers of hard red beech, enhanced by layers of mahogany, with horizontal grain orientation for maximum strength. The outer rim is made of horizontally and vertically aligned hard wood plies.
c.The Pine Posts: are doved tailed to the rim and each post is further secured with two strategically positioned wooden dowels. All posts meet in the center of the belly-rail where a large metal brace locks their position. In the treble section of the model: D the plate and rim tensions can be adjusted by the bell resonator, and then the tonal energy is best transferred at high tonal ranges.
d.Sand Cast Plate: The sand cast frame is made of premium quality grey cast iron, extremely pressure resistant and sound-supporting. The cast-in capo-d’astro bar and the double duplex scales (front and back) enhance the complex colorful sound spectrum. In the middle and bass section the strings; speaking length is defined with special agraffes.
e.Pinblock: A special cross-ply pinblock featuring a maple from North America is now being implemented as the future standard.
